Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) for High School Students and Parents:
These Order of Selection FAQs are specific to students with disabilities ages 14-21.
If a student has already participated in an exploratory pre-employment activity or service with VR, they can continue to receive these types of services up until their 22nd birthday IF they are still a student.
We recommend that before a student applies for a full VR case, you discuss the benefits of signing up for exploratory pre-employment services first with an IDVR Team Member. Receiving exploratory pre-employment services (pre-ETS) first means that a student can begin receiving exploratory services and continue to receive them if they are a student AND prior to their 22nd birthday when they are on a waitlist for full VR services.
If there are additional VR services outside of the exploratory pre-employment activities or services the student is interested in, they will be placed on a waitlist to receive those services. While they are on a waitlist for the non-exploratory services, the student can continue to receive exploratory pre-employment transition services.
We encourage everyone interested in VR services to apply as soon as possible once they know they would like to continue to receive non-exploratory services from VR. When a student is put on a waitlist, their application date and their disability priority category determine their position on the waitlist. The sooner the application is completed, the sooner an eligible student will be removed from the waitlist to be able to begin working with a counselor to receive additional non-exploratory services from VR.
If a student would like assistance with training (school) or employment after high school graduation, they will need to apply for a full VR case if they have not already completed this process.
Under OOS, eligible customers will be placed on a waitlist until IDVR has the resources to serve them.
All individuals applying for a full VR case are being placed on a waitlist if determined eligible for VR services, however, we encourage everyone interested in VR services to apply as soon as possible, because the application date is important under Order of Selection. The sooner the application is completed, the sooner an eligible student will be removed from the waitlist and will be able to begin to receive non-exploratory services from VR.
