OOS Information for Referral Sources

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) for IDVR Referral Sources:

Below is information based on frequently asked questions for referral sources (medical providers, counselors, other workforce program employees, etc.) under Order of Selection.

No. This is not true. We are encouraging anyone interested in VR to apply as soon as possible. If you make a referral for VR services, we will complete our intake and eligibility determination processes with that individual. The application date partially determines an individual’s position on the waitlist so the sooner an individual is referred to and applies for services, the sooner they will be able to receive services if they are waitlisted.

You can refer to our Application and Waitlist pages and review that information with individuals you are wanting to refer to IDVR. Additionally, IDVR can complete an orientation to explain more information about the VR program and process if an individual would like more information prior to applying for VR services.

You can let them know that IDVR encourages everyone interested in VR services to apply as soon as possible because their application date is important under Order of Selection. The sooner their application for VR services is completed, the sooner they will be removed from the waitlist and will be able to begin to work with a VR counselor and begin to receive services if they are eligible for services.

You can also share that the only service that VR can provide while they are on the waitlist is information and referral services to other workforce programs. You can also visit our workforce partners page for more information.

The amount of time an individual will be on the wait list will depend on Agency resources, their disability category assignment, and their date of application. IDVR cannot provide specific information on waitlist times for anyone on a waitlist. For more information visit IDVR’s Waitlist Management and Disability Priority Assignment under Order of Selection page.

We recommend that before a student applies for a full VR case, they meet with a VR team member to discuss the benefits of signing up for exploratory pre-employment services first. Receiving exploratory pre-employment services (pre-ETS) first means that a student can begin receiving exploratory services and continue to receive them if they are a student AND prior to their 22nd birthday when they are on a waitlist for full VR services. For more information specific to IDVR’s student services under OOS, visit our FAQ page for students and parents.

You may contact any IDVR office and speak with one of our team members for additional general information about Order of Selection and VR services.
