Story
Delbert struggled with substance use disorders, mental health and learning difficulties most of his life. He had multiple inpatient substance treatments, difficulty with relationships, significant gaps in work history, and criminal convictions leading to an incarceration
He was referred to Vocational Rehabilitation by his Felony Probation Parole Officer (PO)
PO and VR coordinated with private and non-profit resource providers for wraparound services – substance abuse counseling, clean and sober housing, getting hiring documentation, transportation, job search assistance
As a result, Delbert was hired as a temporary, seasonal employee at Home Depot
After successfully completing substance abuse counseling, VR helped Delbert maintain his progress with individual counseling. He gained confidence and started feeling better about himself.
His employer recognized Delbert’s strong work ethic, exceptional customer service and sales skills, and offered him a permanent, full-time position with benefits
Delbert received numerous “Voice of the Customer” awards and earned “Employee of the Quarter” recognition
Delbert is working hard towards a healthy and happy life. He gives credit to the partners in the community that helped him get the services he needed to be successful
